Escondido Nursery was established in 1999 by Javier Villalpando while working closely with Hedgerow Farms since 1992.
Escondido Nursery produces quality California native grass transplants, as well as sedge and forb rushes for habitat restoration and re-vegetation throughout northern, central, and southern California. We offer many species of bioregional ecotypes. We do contract growing for site-specific collections. Ecological restoration is valuable for controlling erosion and invasive species and maintaining ecosystem integrity and biodiversity. Roadside, canal, pond, and hedgerow plantings provide ecosystem services including pollination, erosion control, weed control, pest insect control, infiltration, and water quality improvement. Wildlife, including deer, small mammals, snakes, lizards, and over 100 species of birds make use of habitat areas.
As a native grass grower, we understand the need to control weeds, maximize water available to crops, and preserve the soil resource. Native planting helps meet those goals and can be included in other landscapes such as rangeland, roadsides, riparian areas, flood plains, stormwater drains, and urban landscaping. We are continually expanding our inventory of new species and ecotypes. More recently we have added many wildflowers important for pollinators and native bees.
